Barton's Bus is Headed to the 'Boro

Church Hill, TN- Thursday, October 12th the Volunteer Lady Falcons hosted the “Sweet 16” State Qualifier Tournament against the Seymour Lady Eagles to see who would be advancing to the TSSAA Division 1 District 2-AA State Championship next week in Murfreesboro, TN. With the Lady Falcons sitting in 1st place as the Conference, District, and Region Champions, they knew what was on the line as they went up against the #2 Lady Eagles. With a win they would be the first team in 37 years headed to the State Championship.
Early in the First Set the Lady Falcons took a strong lead, leaving the Lady Eagles trailing far behind and unable to catch up. They completed Set 1: 25-10. The Lady Eagles were ready to respond for the start of Set 2, while the Lady Falcons continued with a consistent lead with the Lady Eagles being able to make it close at times. Luckily, Volunteer was able to finish Set 2 with a score of 25-20. With a large Falcon Crowd in the gym on edge for Set 3, the Lady Falcons slightly fell behind, but were able to pull out the broom and finish with a sweep against Seymour with the final score of Set 3 was 25-22.
Region MVP Veda Barton was doing MVP things leading the team with 18 Kills along with having 14 Digs and 2 Blocks. Lily Christian led with 32 Assists, and Chloe Redwine led with 18 Digs, Jaycee Cassidy coming up close with 14 Digs.
Per the Volunteer High School Facebook, this team is now 26-2 overall winning 49 out of 50 sets this season in Conference, District, Region, and Substate games.
On Monday, the Lady Falcons will load the bus to head to Murfreesboro to get prepared to play one of the other Division 1 State Qualifiers (Anderson County, Signal Mountain, Upperman, Valor College Prep, Creek Wood, Dyer County, and Crockett County) on Tuesday. There will be a Community Sendoff Monday morning at a tentative time of 9:00am from the Church Hill Library Parking Lot located at 412 E Main Blvd, Church Hill TN 37642 (near the Antique Store and Pal’s). We encourage you to come out and give this outstanding team and coaches a big sendoff!
