Church Hill- The Volunteer Falcons had a fantastic night on the hardwood as they got the four team sweep on county rival Cherokee. All four teams for VHS came away with a win, with the varsity girls and varsity boys team winning in dominating fashion.

The JV Girls team came together and put a nice showing to win their matchup 40-13. During the next game, things got electric as the JV Boys had an incredible game against the Chiefs in a game that was back and forth. Chiefs hit a 3 point shot to go up 37-34 with about 1:50 left in the game, but the Falcons easily hit their own 3 pointer to tie it with 57 seconds left. Falcons blocked a shot on defense, took the ball right down the court and ended the game on a put back jump shot  as time expired to win 39-37!

Soon after, the Lady Falcons took the floor and the domination didn’t stop. Ava Jackson and Veda Barton had big games, both playing with a lot of power. Both had meaningful points and rebounds but their presence was felt the most with their efforts while fighting for the ball and playing defense. Perimeter shooters had a great game as well as Emilee Mailloux, Anna and Emma Houck combined for impressive nights behind the stripe.

To finish the night and go for the sweep, the boys varsity team really turn up the dial as they handled the Chiefs to the tune of 70-48. In the first half Volunteer overpowered Cherokee, and the chiefs had no answer. Really every player for the Falcons contributed well in this highly anticipated game. At the half the Falcons were up 36-14. In the second half the Chiefs made things interesting as they went on a 10-0 run to start. With the score now at 36-24, the Falcons needed some help. They found that help as Tucker McLain really dug deep and played fantastic basketball. McLain ended the night with 23 points and a lot of rebounds. Other players that shined were Griffin Head with crucial 3 point shots nailed and great help from other teammates like Nolan Amyx, Cameron Cox and Owen Miller.

Overall fantastic night, and we at Volunteer Sports Network had plenty of fun covering this big night. Tune in soon as we do more live play by play coverage on Mixlr. Check us out on all social media platforms for coverage and post about Volunteer athletics.
